Winter light in Helsingborg is a good light show worth a visit. Not only does it spread the joy of Christmas. It also enlighten the dark grey winter nights in Scania.
I visited Helsingborg when I made an Öresund runt tour and stayed at Clarion Grand. How ever, if you prefer a more modern hotel the Clarion SeaU is close by as well. After I checked in I was looking for something to do before dinner and found the app Guide Helsingborg. A tourist guide over the city with the same name. A light show with the name Winter light some weeks before Christmas sounds like a good idea. Remember that Scania and Helsingborg have rarely any white winters. So every light show that can foul us that it’s actually is winter is welcome.
The show is an art installation of 27 different light works and takes about 1,5 hour to walk. Some of the installments are great and others is just bla seen it before. For me personally the unicorn was the greatest work.
For me the unicorn have always symbolized the magic and the idea of a better world. When I see it at Winter light it enlighten the world. Not only by it’s strong light in a dark park. It goes deeper then that and stands there as a symbol of the good forces that always wins over the darkness in fairytales. It also stands there as a symbol (God knows why) for the queer movement and the battle for sexual equality. Maybe I read to much into it. On the other hand I do like the idea that art should make us think.
This was my favorite part of Winter light. But I also appreciated the sky of stars, shining snowmen and winter world with ice rink. The 27 light installments of Winter light creates a magic world that fits al. Young or old, female or male, gay or straight. There is something for al of us. And best of al it’s free!
