It’s Pride month and many in the LGBTQ community travels to celebrate Pride in another city. But as a queer traveler it’s important that we make’s enlighten decision about who we travel with and where we stay.
I try to travel with companies that have been proactive and supportive to the queer community. So it’s not a coincidence that I prefers to fly with SAS and stay at Accors hotel globally and Strawberry national. Al three companies have been chosen with Pride in my mind.
SAS
SAS are not only the biggest airline in Scandinavia, it’s also a front runner for queer rights. Al ready as in 2010 SAS made the first gay wedding in the air. And they have continued to support the case of the LGBTQ community. Every year I have seen participating in Pride marches in the Nordic capitals. Making sure that as a queer passenger you will feel welcome on your next flight.
Accor
I love to travel and have visited 5 different continents. Always trying to find a hotel chain where I can be my self without fare of prejudices. After some different hotel chains I decided to stay with Accor. They are platinum global partner to IGLTA and have several times had signs up say no to discrimination against lgbtq travelers and against sexual exploitation. They also have a great and cheap way to retain gold status, that’s helps a lot when you travel. Al together they are worth to stay at with pride.
Strawberry
Is the recently renamed Nordic hotel Cain Nordic Choice Hotels. One of the thing I like with them is their broad range of hotels from budget to luxury. Their owner Petter Stordalen is also a strong supporter of human equality. His hotel have for many year sponsored Pride events and him self have declared Pride as the most important event in the year ( in Norwegian). My favorite memory of Strawberry was when I stayed at Clarion Stockholm and found a sign saying control your dick for fuck sake. Being so clear that never sexual harassment or prostitution is okey makes me feel proud of my choice of hotel.
Your responsibility
As you can see I have proactively chosen where I will spend my pink euros. I have done it based on my needs and if the companies have participated in Pride. If you are a part of the LGBTQ community or support us. Makes sure to use your cash flow on a way that supports equality.
