Traveling off season can give you som pros but also some cons. I will give you 3 pros and cons to why or why not you should travel out of season.
Pros to travel of season
- It’s cheaper! Most of al don’t wan to spend more money then necessary on our travels and less people will give you a better rate at hotels and airlines. Many hotels close completely during off travel season. But those who stay open struggle to get the business go around even with minimal crew. So to attract the customers they lower the price so you get a better deal accepting that its off travel season.
- It’s more simple to get an upgrade. Even with low price the hotels ain’t get fully booked. So it will be more easy for you to get an upgrade at check in. This is the way the hotels tries to make you more loyal and a returning guest. And to be honest, an upgrade don’t cost them much, but makes our lives as travelers much nicer.
- No queues at al! Try to visit a tourist attraction during peak season and get get scared away by the queues, or at least I get it. By traveling off season I don’t need to think on the queues, they are non existing. Independent if its to the amusement park, the sun bed or a museum, the queues are not there. Saving you time and peace to your mind.
The cons then
- The service can be a little worse. With fewer employees many places cant give you the service they usually does. It can take some time to order your food, the pool bar may be closed and the children club don’t opens when you travel off season. On the other hand, you did get a low price so maybe you cant ask for everything either.
- Some places are closed. Specially amusement parks have a tendency to be closed if you travel off season. At the same time some restaurangs may be closed as well and the markets in the tourist area are maybe smaller. How ever I’m not sure if smaller markets are a pro or con. I guess that depends on your taste.
- The weather ain’t the best. This is maybe the main reason to why it’s off season to visit your destination. But over the year I have traveled off season many times and never found the weather being so bad that I can’t defend it. Yes if you are looking to get really tanned then it can be a problem. But otherwise the weather just demands a little more planning. Making sure you always have an alternative thing to do if it rains al day. Or by same rain ponchos and accept the fact.
So is it worth to travel off season?
In my humble opinion the answer is yes. good upgrade at a hotel I get for lower price and no need to queue weights heavier then a little bad weather, slow service and closed attractions. I have so far never been on a place where the destiation it self ain’t good enough to explore. So I will continue to travel off season. Whats your opinion? Let me know in the comments.
