The Spice bazaar or as its also called the Egyptian Bazaar in Istanbul is a most to visit. When you enter it, it’s like al the flavors you can dream about becomes true. There is different peppar, that would create a fire in your mouth as well as sweet saffran to please your tongue. You can also find different kinds of nuts, sweets and dried fruits. But my personal favorite is their selection of tea.
I mean just look on the teas above and don’t say that you don’t get tempted. But its not only the mouth that will get satisfied here. Every time I walk in here I get impressed by the almost perfect pyramids made out of different spices. I can’t resist to stop and adore them, even if I know I would get approach by a seller in under one minute. If you are used to a bustling market culture it will not be a problem for you. But as a Swede, its just annoying. But its still much more calm atmosphere here then in the close by Grand Bazaar.
You will find the Spice bazaar in the Eminönü district. Its close to both the Galata bridge and the New Mosque. As a result you really don’t need to make a detour to visit it. Its literally on the way and you will for sure get to taste some new flavors here.
Where to sleep close to the spice bazaar
When I head to Istanbul for a weekend I prefer to stay on the European side that is closer to al the tourist sights. At the same time I do want to get a view out over Bosphorus when I have breakfast or get a drink at the night. So I usually choose to stay at Novotel Bosphorus. Its well located, have a great bar and breakfast area. They staff is very attentive and give you a lot of amenities if you are a status member in the Accor group.
