Many time when we travel we struggle to find the off line gem that will make our day. In Berlin there is such a place that you just need to visit, Teufelsberg! It’s a man made hill created by approximately 26 million cubic metres world war 2 rubble of West Berlin. To find hills of rubble ain’t uncommon in Germany. But Teuffelberg is the only one with a school made by the nazi head architect Albert Speer under it. Today its an amazing place to visit if you want to catch a great view out over Berlin from the top of 120 meter above the sea.
Even if the view is great the surroundings can look scary, and you enter the site on your own risk. How ever I never felt unsafe when I visited the Teufelsberg some year ago. Instead I found a place that combined nature, art and history al in one.
The site can look like it will fall apart, but if you dare to enter there is a real bonus waiting for you if you like mural paintings. The entrance fee is 8€ ( cash only ) and is well invested if you like alternative art. Because here at Teufelsberg I found the best collection of mural paintings I ever seen.
How to get here: If you want to visit this off line gem in Berlin there is guided tour from central Berlin. Or you can go by your self by S-Bahn | S3, S9 to Heerstraße and exit Boyenallee. From there you will have a nice walk in to the park and up to the top.
