For many years Sweden was considered as a cold an expensive country to visit. And yes, it’s still expensive. But far less than you think.
With a Europe hit by heatwaves many tourists looks for colder places to visit. And with a temperature between 10-20 with up to 25 daytime Sweden sounds like a great place to visit. You can easily visit a forest, hike in the mountains or make some shopping and still have some energy left for the nights fun.
On top of that the Swedish currency is super low compared to the Euro Dollar and the Danish crown. Making your visit this former expensive country much cheaper than you think. Just look on how the Euro have been developing against the Swedish crown for the last ten years.
How to travel in Sweden
Sweden is a thin but long country. If you was flipping it 180 degree the northern part would land in Italy. But it have excellent travel facilities with al bigger cities served by train, bus and planes. In the southern Sweden train is usually the most common way to travel between cities. But the distances increases the more north you go and plane gets more and more an attractive option. However, what transport you choose is many times depending on the price. And its always worth to compare when you buy your ticket. Some days trains are the cheapest while others the plane is the best option.
Malmö
On top of that Sweden have something for everybody year around. If we starts in the south we have Malmö. My magic hometown also known as the city of parks. In this old industrial city you can see amazing architecture as Turning Torso, churches from the 14-century and a lot of parks. On the evening you walk up to Möllan and get a cheap beer with the locals while you enjoys the multinational culture. Many tourist makes Malmö as a part of their Copenhagen visit and buy a guided tour to get the most out of their day in Sweden.
Stockholm
Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and well worth a visit. Not only because of the Royal castle, parliament and the Vasa museum. It also have a fantastic archipelago that you can visit for a day or two. But what I personally like with Stockholm is that it compared to other capitals are so small that its walkable. You can easily walk to and from al the main tourist sites from central Stockholm. As an example its just 3.1 km from Stockholm Central to the Abba Museum at Djurgården. If you want to relax and get tampered for a night or two I recommend the Yasuragi spa.
Jukkasjärvi
Far up in the north you can visit Jukkasjärvi To get here a flight is more or less your only option. But its so worth it. Up here you can see the midnight sun during summer and the nordic lights during winter. You can also visit Esrange space center, meet sami people or take a ride with a dog sledge. To get an extraordinary experience I would recommend to book a night in an ice room.
Be ensured Sweden have something for you
So if you want to get away from the South European heat waves Sweden could be your next destination. Its much cheaper the its sourrunding countries, have excellent connections and a friendly english speaking natives. Yes it can rain some days. But after 40 degrees in Italy thats just a pleasure.
