Ice room, or ice suite, the choice is yours. When we stayed at the Ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi we had one nigh in an ice suit. We was lucky to get the Midsummer night’s dream an art suite totally made of ice. The suite are designed by Carl Philip Bernadotte and Oscar Kylberg. The suite reflects the bright nordic midsummer in an arctic environment.
What I love with it is that this ice room is a changing almost living piece of art. Over time the ice change and get’s more frosty while the flower changes colors. Its just as in real life, nature change and our impression with it. Except the cosy bed above there was also a small sitting area. Of course it was made of ice as well. It’s a little cold to sitt in, but its possible for a short time.
The pure ice from Torneå älv, just below the hotel is an amazing material to design in. But it’s cold, so you do need to warm up a little. This aint a problem if you stay in an ice room in the year around part of the Ice hotel. You will then have your own private warm bathroom with a bath tube or as in our case a sauna. It was so welcome after a day out in the cold.
What more ice rooms are there to try?
One good thing with the Ice hotel is that al ice rooms are open for the public day time. Meaning that you have a lot of time to walk around and check out al the other ice rooms. There is even an ice church if you want to get married.
But also a lot of fantastic art. Giving you an idea of how beautiful the ice is. Yes, its just frozen water. But when it transforms in to art and ice rooms it’s just pure amazing joy to see.
So if you are in Jukkasjärvi but can’t afford to sleep at the Ice Hotel, make sure to buy a day ticket to see al the amazing ice rooms.
