Saving Ukrainian life is one of the best ways to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people. So when I found a short notice that SAS have brought more then 2000 wounded Ukrainians to safety I was impressed.
As you know Russia started an full invasion of Ukraine for almost two years ago. As in every war the number of wounded is much higher then the killing rate. In the same time the possibilities to save, operate and rehabilitate is more limited then in peace time. Saving Ukrainian life and help people getting recovered is not a question for here and now. Its also important to make sure that a war drawn country can be rebuilt after the war.
So even if I support the military aid to Ukraine I do believe that it is the humanitarian help that is the most important. ECHO have reported that EU:s Emergency Response Coordination Centre have saved over 3000 lives. This is impressive and the biggest medical evacuation operation EU ever seen. But saving Ukrainian life affect so many others. Because almost every soldier and civilian have families that love them. So to bring wounded Ukrainians to medical treatment in any of the 22 participating countries helps so many others. It also looks like SAS and other airlines will continue to save life. The Norweigan government have declared that they will stand by Ukraine and continue the humanitarian aid until at least november 2024.
Why do I blog about saving Ukrainian life
Except that I do want to show my support for the Ukrainian people I also want to highlight how important the civil air industry is. Without civil airliners much more people would die because the didn’t get quality healthcare. You have maybe thought about it after your last ski adventure. You know when flied with a cast leg. But seriously, the civil air industry safes Ukrainian life and others every day. The airlines is on many ways an important part of a global health and emergency system, as well as an integrated part of the civil defense. Today the save an Ukrainian life, tomorrow it could be yours. So continue to travel and choose an airline that takes it’s responsibilities towards your community seriously.
