Mountain safari was our main activity when we visited Buvik Sea Lodge. To get the most out of it we choose the 5 hour tour with Northern Horizon even if we needed to get back to Tromsø to catch the bus. But what could have been a detour ended up in a great experience seeing moose on the road.
We was around 15 people with different skills and equipment who entered the bus prepared for a day of mountain safari. One some way we was unlucky and didn’t get some great views of sea eagles or more moose. On the other hand we was lucky and did get some great views of rein deers.
Rein deers – the high light of mountain safari
Rein deers can look like wild animals but are actually owned by Sami families. According to Norwegian law those are the only one who have permission to own rein deers. Even if I have seen rein deers before this was the first time I seen them in their natural enviroment. Im so happy that the our guide Simon knew where to drive to find them. I think this was the high light of the mountain safari it self.
The nature
The problem with wild animals is that they are wild. So it’s hard to know exactly where they hide. So even if we did our best we didn’t see so many other animals except some seals on distance. But the mountain safari took us to some really beautiful places. The Norwegian nature is made to impress us tourists.
A Norwegian fika ends the mountain safari
At the end of our mountain safari we was invited to a fika consisting of coffee and a Norwegian bun with mess butter. Im usually not a big fan of mess butter, but here in the wild it tasted delicious. On the way home Simon told us about Norwegian history and the connection between Sami and Wiking music.
Back home in Tromsø we left our new friends with great memories and impressions. We was also told that the photo our guide took would be able to us at Dropbox and that he would send the link the next day.
