We have all felt some jet lag when we been traveling to difference time zones. For many people who fly long distances, jetlag can destroy some days of your hard earned vacation. You want to sleep early or sleep a little to long. Or you feel like you have an hang over even if you been complete sober. So yes jet lag is a problem when you want the most out of it. The good news is that there is if not a solution so tricks that makes it easier to handle.
Eat according to the time at destination
This is an easy way to lighten the burden of jet lag. Many times the airline specially in coach where the don’t have eat on demand give you the most heavy dish after take of and a smaller lunch opr breakfast before arrival. But if the time on your destination ain’t suitable for a dinner, try to wait to eat and bring your self some fruits or sandwiches. It’s easier to convince your body that it’s night if your stomach is empty. It will think it’s night and you will sleep more easy and by that adopt better to the time at destination.
Think on what you drink
You want a good sleep so you spoil your self with a scotch to the double espresso that the air host kindly offer to you. Well maybe it was tasty, but its not good for your battle agains jet lag. Because you will need to sleep tight as an innocent angel to get as little. jet lag as possible. So the simple rule is no alcohol and no coffee while flying. Both dehydrates your body and will make it harder for you to adopt to the local time at destination.
Sleep is a magic cure to jet lag
So you says no to dinner and start to feel tired. This is excellent! Now you just need to find your travel pillow that you have in your hand luggage and put on your noice reducing ear phones before you fall to sleep. Because we al know that even if the white noice of a plane makes us tired. Our fellow passengers do walk in the aisle, cough and have conversations with their friends while al you want to do is sleep. And the pillow? Well, to sleep well I need a pillow that is bigger then a tissue and most pillows on flights is not. On top of that, the chairs in coach have such a low recline that thats impossible to find a good sleeping position. So you will need an extra pillow to be able to sleep.
Be active when you arrive
Most but not al intercontinental flight depart afternoon or evening and arrive early morning. And here is the most important part in the battlea against jet lag. Even if you feel tired, stay up and avoid the sun chair. Instead you can make a walk in the neighborhood, visit the first place on your most see list or explore the beach. The important part is that you keep your self active. Don’t go to bed until the local clock says so. Independent of what your body tells you.
Upgrade to a higher cabin – the best solution to jet lag
This is according to me the best solution against jet lag, but also the most expensive. But it will make a hell of a difference. When I flied to LA in coach, the first week was terrible. It was like God wanted me to know what jet lag is and nevwer forget it. On the other hand, when I have been flying the same distance in business class I have arrived well fit for exploring the city from the first hour. The solution is simple, I could sleep much better when I can lay flat and I could eat on demand. This made it much more easy to adopt to the local time just after I boarded the plane.
