Intra-European business is a product that never stops to surprise me. I had intentionally booked my outbound flight with Austrian Airlines in economy and home bound in business. How ever my outbound flight was totally full and probably over booked. So to my big joy I was upgraded to Business class on my outbound flight as well. On my way home we was just two people in front of the curtain so the service was superb.
Seats
And even if I never tried Austrian airlines before I have been flying enough European economy to know the difference between economy and Intra-European Business. The seat here as in most European airline the same independent of class. The big difference is that in business the middle seat is always free. At Austrian the result is that the business cabin gets a cozy feeling with just eight passengers in-front of the curtain. On my outbound flight there was a middle aged gentleman who tried to self upgrade him self. But the employees was quick to notice and sent him straight back to seat 21C. I never understood those who think that self upgrade will work. For me it would be so embarrassing to be sent back that I wouldn’t even consider it.
Is the food good on Intra-European business class
So the seats ain’t a reason enough to book an Intra-European business ticket. But what about the food? Depending on the airline and time of day the service in economy differs. But I have never had a warm dish for an 1,5 our long flight behind the curtain. In-front of it on the other hand it’s not uncommon flying around lunch or dinner time. But even when I compare to most other business class I tried Austrian did stand out. Just like Turkish Airline they have the excellent Do-Co??? to take care of their catering. And did I notice the quality. As a main dish I had a tasty steak with mushrooms and potato followed by an apple pie with vanilla sauce on the outbound flight and a Chicken Tiki Masala with a chocolate cake as dessert on my way home. Because I never drink I’m happy with a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee.
After the food the crew served me a small chocolate bar. This could have come earlier so I could enjoy it with the coffee. But then I’m quite picky into details. Overall I love the food on Austrian. Making me think that the food it self is a good reason to fly intra-European business with them.
How much luggage can you bring with you
I’m usually fly over the weekends with just some hand luggage and in Intra-European Business Class you are allowed to have to bags in the cabin. But if you need a lot of luggage the extra checked in bag is a good reason to fly infra-European business.
On top of the extra baggage included in your ticket you can add one more if you are a Star Alliance Gold member. Al in al you can then take three checked in bags with you. A luggage most of us never will have a use for if we fly inside Europe.
Was it worth to fly Intra-European Business Class?
Well it al depends on the price. But in General I would say yes. On a plane you can more or less just du three things. Eat, read and sleep. And if you fly on day time in Europe, sleep ain’t an option. So why not get some decent food to spend the time with. You also get fast track and lounge at the airport. I will review Vienna International Airport in another post.
