When I stayed at Ibis Style in Kaunas on my planned visit to the Sugihara House I was surprised how well the hotel responded to the cities big sport – basketball. You could really feel the pride the city puts to it’s team and the sport. But sadly the didn’t show pride to their own work.
I arrived a little late to Kaunas with a Ryan Air flight from Copenhagen. The transfer with the local bus was just one euro and the bus stops just outside of Ibis Style. So far so good. But the check in was so slow and the clerk explained that they hade problem with their check in system. However that don’t explain why he walked away for a phone call in the middle of my check in. In my humble world the customer is more important then your private phone calls. And I doubt it was the manager calling him after 9 pm a Friday.
Upgraded
But I was happy to been upgraded from the most basic room to a suit on the top floor. This suit at IBIS Style in Kaunas was really nice with a separate living area with a sofa, chair and table. I also had a great view out over the city and a green area close by.
The suit follows the theme of basketball with some fun paintings and a cool lamp. Even me who don’t like the sport thought it was a cool idea.
So the suit was actually really cool. There was also complementary a liter of mineral water, tooth brush and cream. If I should be picky and complain on something, maybe the bathroom could have been a little bigger.
Can IBIS Style Kaunas have my breakfast ready in time
I’m usually an early bird person, so the first morning I headed down to breakfast an half hour after it should have opened. To my surprise the staff was still preparing it. The staff was friendly and I could start with some coffee and scrambeld egg. But I didn’t find any sausages thew first morning. The second morning the breakfast was done in time and there was two different sausages for me two choose between. This is the second time on a short period that the breakfast service differs remarkably at an IBIS hotel and something Accor should take care off. The best part of the breakfast was actually the coffee and decoraction.
Conclusion
What I do like with the IBIS Style concept is that every hotel is different decorated. It creates an connection to the city where its located. The hardware at IBIS Style in Kaunas is good! The suit was great, the bed was comfy and it connects well with the airport transfer. With that said, the soft product ain’t as good as the hard. That the reception leaves an ongoing slow check in for a call in the back room is totally unacceptable. The customer most be more important then your private calls. This was the biggest disappointment ever at an ACCOR hotel. So would I stay here again? The answer is yes, mostly because of the great room and low price. But if I was the hotel manager I would send my employees on training in customer relation.
