The IBIS at Heroes Square was my prefer hotel on my layover in Budapest. I booked it for my 17 hours layover and I needed a place to sleep. Being a gold member at Accor I started to search for a cheap hotel with some tourist attraction close by. IBIS at Heroes square was then my obvious choice. Its cheap, close to Heroes square and the Vajdahunyad castle.
Check in
I check in at IBIS Heroes Square around half past six and meet a kind female receptionist. After checking my passport she tells me that everything is prepayed except the city tax. She gave me the basic info about the hotel, where I found my room and the way to the elevator. She also reminded me that if I hadany question I was welcome to ask her. Together with my key was my free drink coupon that I could use in the bar. The check takes less then five minutes, but was al the time kind and proffesional. It later become clear that the professional kindness was consistent among al employees.
Standard room at IBIS Heroes square
An IBIS hotel is maybe not the hotel you book because of it’s fashionable room. The rooms are simple but comfortable and have al things you need for one or two nights away. IBIS Heroes Square is not an exemption. I recognized the rooms style and furniture from other hotels from the same brand. But there is things that differs even if the brand are the same. It’s much about the kindness of the employees. But also how quick the wifi is. And here I don’t complain about it. The speed was more then enough for me to watch a film and post on Instagram.
The other thing that give the hotel a little local charm is the gift you get as an Accor gold member. At IBIS Heroes Square I got some nuts covered in chocolate and cinnamon. For me as a Swed the taste was a little to different to what Im used to. So I just tasted one. But my point is that the welcome letter and gift makes me feel special. And who don’t like to feel special.
The bathroom is simple but the shower is bigger then other IBIS hotels. I also like the text “Rock your body” on the shampoo dispenser. The lighting is good enough for shaving and there is also a hair dryer to use.
Amenities
IBIS Heroes square is more or less a budget hotels, so my exceptions are low. Both shampoo and soap is in dispenser. Environmentally friendly but not something that says luxury. The same is for the tea and coffee amenities in the room. They are there, but its basic. On the other hand I have never found a good coffee in a hotel room. So there is no really amenities to speak about.
The neighborhood around IBIS Heroes square
Even if you arrive late the neighborhood is worth a walk. It’s safe and are a mix of diplomatic and private houses. Just some hundred meters away you will find Heroes square with a beautifully lit. Behind this is the Vajdahunyad castle. If it’s a calm night you will see some really nice reflections of the castle in the sea. But even if it’s a nice area to walk in, I found it harder to find restaurants. I ended up in a cafe close to Heroes square. But if I wasn’t so hungry I would have wait for the breakfast.
