To travel with Wizz Air is an interesting experience. To find out how bad this Hungarian low cost airline founded 2004 really are I took one for the team.
I had decided that Katowice in Poland should be my next travel destination. So when I found out that I could book a return ticket from Malmö to Katowice for around 40 euro I decided that is was time to go.
Booking experience
Just to book your flight thru Wizz Airs homepage is a good way to loose your interest for traveling. It ain’t a homepage saying we will make it easy for you. By and aggressive up sale you get tired to make sure you don’t click yes some wear. Because if you do the price increase quickly. I succeeded to say no to al up sale and thought that the price on the homepage would be honored. But no, in the final end they did charge me with a booking fee. So I needed to pay a fee to book my ticket. Yea the ticket is still cheap but….
Check in and boarding
The up sale continued during check in! I resisted to choose seat or by luggage knowing that my ruggsack did fit the requirement of 40-30–205 that is aloud for free. As a bad passenger refusing any pay up I was dedicated to seat 22B on an A320.
Checking with other friends who been flying with Wizz I’m sure the B seat is an active choice from the Wizz Air to convince their passengers to pay for a dedicated seat next time the travel with them.
When it was time to board the line was long and horrible and the process ain’t as quick as I thought it to be. With just a small bag I waited out the que before I boarded along the last one.
Onboard
When I found my seat I was happy to find out that seat 22C was empty. I did seat my self at my assigned 22B but as soon boarding was complyI moved over to the C seat. And God, I’m I happy for that! The seat pitch is so small that I with my 192 cm wouldn’t get a thin paper between my knees and the seat I front of me.
During my one hour flight the cabin crew made two turns. The first to sell drinks and sweets and the second to sell tax free. Otherwise they was not to be seen. On the other hand I didn’t miss them.
By the bad English during the safety demonstration I was not surprised I didn’t understand a word when our plane hit some turbulence over Poland. Instead I followed my own routine and checked that the crew continued to sell duty free and being visible in the cabin. As long as they are that and. It sitting down the situation is calm.
Arriving
When we arrived to Katowice we did get a smooth landing before we got to our position. The bus did arrive quickly and the arrived to the terminal in a few minutes.
So was is worth to travel with Wizz Air
You do get what you pay for! And this is so true when it comes to Wizz Air. Yes they take you from point A to B for a cheap prize. As long as you accept their aggressive upsale, don’t need luggage and are fine with a middle seat. If you don’t and decide to accept any of their up sale the price ain’t cheap any more. But would I travel with them again? I would say yea, as long as it’s a short distance and I don’t need any luggage. For longer destinations or I need some luggage I would prefer a more traditional airline like SAS, LOT or Lufthansa.
