An European consolidation of airlines is needed. To day we can fly cheap with RyanAir, Europes largest airline. But is it healthy? I don’t think so. Thats why Im happy to see the sone privatized TAP makes a half year profit. At the same time we can see that SAS makes its first profit of 15 quarters. The good news here is that this will makes it easier to sell them.
But will not a consolidation making flying more expensive? Well probably and I wan’t it to become more expensive. From a consumer and frequent flyer that can sounds stupid. But I have some good reasons for it.
Why consolidation is good
First of all, airlines like Ryan Air and Wizz Air is not a full service airlines. That means that its harder for you to travel to cities if there ain’t a direct route. On the same time, there is no lounges, no real frequent flyer programs, no way to buy tickets by points and so on. With other word, their service is limited. For me, who spend hours on airports a fast track, a lounge to rest or work in and the possibility to send my luggage al the way is worth a lot. By that reason I love full service airlines. I pay a little more, but also get those small things that makes traveling easier. A consolidation would increase the uppertunity for full service airlines to continue to up in the air.
My second reason is that I want the employee of airlines to have a decent salary. Then I don’t just speak about basic things like paid uniforms. I want them to focus on my safety and service, not how the should reach their onboard sale. I also strongly believe that human rights as joining a union should be uphold and respected by the airlines. And even if for example SAS have some questionable subcontractors, full service airlines do have better employee policies. So a consolidation that force us to pay a little more is ok, if it means that employee rights will be more respected.
My third and final reason is that a consolidation that creates more profitable airlines will create a better environment. For let us be honest, the need of flying passengers and goods will not disappear. SO the question of flying or not is dead. The question is how we can make it more environmental friendly. The first electric planes will sone start to fly, but that ain’t enough. And explore, develop and implement more environmental planes ant technics cost money. And its just fair that its we who fly who pays for it.
So pay a little more
Airlines that makes profit is good for us passengers if they are combined with service, respect for human rights and environmental technic. But this will not be possible if we have to many small national airlines. What we need is maybe three or four big airlines in Europe who will be profitable enough to give us the airline industry we want and need. Thats why I as a frequent traveler are for a consolidation of the European air industry.
Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective.
A lot of times it’s very hard to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual
appeal. I must say you have done a awesome job with this.
Additionally, the blog loads very fast for me on Firefox.
Exceptional Blog!
