One of the hotels I tried in Vietnam was Grand Mercure in Hanoi. And to be honest they nailed it. I have tried other luxury hotels but this did stand out.
Check in was soft as a duvet
We arrived around 1 pm with a car from Novotel Ha Long. As sone as we arrivedn to Grand Mercure in hanoi we got our welcome drink and meet Mr Quang who is a magic wonder of hospitality. He ensured us that our louggage was already taken cared of and would be sent to our room. Before our check in we was asked if we wanted to check in at the lobby or the reception. We choose to check in at the reception and after just a few minutes we was guided to our room. We was also offered a free drink in the bar and a late check out without asking for it. If you need a care while you are in Hanoi I would recommend you to book their Maybach. What a car…
Wow, what a room,
We had booked a executive room and got a room on the 14 floor with a view out over Temple of literature. This room is absolutely stunning with a fantastic contemporary Vietnamese design. The beds was comfortable and when you slipped in the the bathrobe it was like cover your self in clouds. It was so soft I couldn’t get enough of it. The executive room at Grand Mercure gives you access to the lounge but also have some very special treats I never experienced before. The most valuable was the free use of the minibar (non-alcoholic) and the possibility to free laundry of 3 pieces a day. In a climate that is so warm and humid as i Vietnam free laundry can’t get overestimated. So maybe an executive room ain’t the cheapest one but the treats that are included makes it worth it’s price.
Grand Mercure executive lounge
One of the best advantages of the executive room at Grad Mercure is the after noon tea and the cocktail hours. When I’m traveling I usually get out early in the morning and then hang at the hotel on the after noon. With an after noon tea starting at 3 pm it was a natural time to be back at the hotel. Every day we was presented with a complete after noon tea and a small warm dish in the lounge. It was just a good way to start the after noon activities at the hotel. After the after noon tea I goes for a swim and are back at the lounge around 5:30 pm for the cocktail hours that also functions as a small but early dinner.
The staff at the lounge Anh, Vip and Huan was al very caring. Anh for example gave us a list of things to see and helped us get a table at Tamvi, a one star Guide Michelin restaurant. She also called them and ensured our booking was valid at the day of our dinner. Al in al, the employees in the lounge was friendly, helpful and gave our stay an unexpected value.
Swimming and training.
The pool and the gym are both located at the 16 floor of Grand Mercure. Im lazy so I didn’t try the gym. But according to my husband it was the best hotel gym he ever tried. The pool was on the other hand to good to not use. You can lay in the water looking out over Hanoi and the Temple of literature or lay in one of the sun beds looking in to the pool thru it’s glass wall. The pool is not big and if you have children its maybe not the best. But during our stay we was as most two couple at the pool area so why make it bigger?
Grand Mercure Hanoi, was it worth it?
Grand Mercure is not the cheapest hotel in Hanoi. But as a 5 star it should not compete with the budget alternatives either. When I think on the service and quality of the hotel I would say that it’s well priced. With an executive rooms with al the treats and liunge access it’s definitive a really good choice. Its not in the middle of everything. But we walked to every point of interest without out any problems. If you don’t like to walk you just ask the hotel for a taxi or ad mentioned book their Maybach. I don’t like to just give roses. But Grand Mercure Hanoi don’t gives me any choices.
If this hotel don’t fits you, maybe Pullmans just a few quarters away is more your style
