Don’t lose money when you fly. And Im not speaking about the sometimes hilarious prices for a ticket or food on board. But during the last week I have meet several people who told me that their point earned on flying have bee n expired. For me as a frequent traveler its like giving away money to the airline.
Well its true that the profit of most passengers in coach are equal to a latte at Starbucks. But that ain’t a reason to why you should lose money. I will use SAS Eurobonus program as an example. But the same princip is valid on al frequent flyer program.
Dependent on how far you fly or how much you spent (it differs between airlines) you will get an amount of points. This points can later be exchanged to either new tickets on the same or other airline. But it can also be used to book hotel rooms, rent cars or buy things. With other word every point have a value. For Eurobonus the value can differ between 0,03 and 1,5 krona depending on how you use it. The most favorable way is of course to by a long distance ticket in Business with the same airline. On the other hand the less favorable thing to do is to buy candy or electronics in the airline online shop. But the absolutely worst thing you can do is to make the points expire. So unlike you you really love to lose money make sure you spend the points.
This is valid for al bonus program in the travel industry. Most hotels, airlines, car rentals have their own program. You can also usually cross use the points between different categories. For example you can use points earned at Accor Hotels to buy seats on Air France. And Im just waiting for what fun deals the merge between Norweigan and Strawberry will give us. Becaue I have some points on Strawberry and I will make sure to use them. Because I don’t like to lose money.
If you have some points on your accounts but need suggestions how to use them. Send me a PM on Instagram and I will put together a suggestion that will fit you.
