Are you looking for a candy paradise? We have found it for you! Lets feed our sweet tooth, you deserve a treat.
For many kids and adults the most Christmas like candy is the polka pig. It’s sweet but still have a little strong peppermint taste, making it tasty for kids of al ages. It’s specially good when it’s freshly made. And that’s why you should visit the small municipality of Gränna, located around four hours drive from Copenhagen. Here you will have a lot of local producers of polka pigs who invite you to see how they are made. A quality proof that most other industries don’t give.
Brahehus
When you satisfied your craving for candy, I suggests that you drive three kilometer north from the candy paradise, to the ruin of Brahehus. The ruin is located 270 meter above the sea and gives you an amazing view out of the lake Vänern and island Visingsö. Here you can have a picnic or eat at the restaurant close by.
The castle Brahehus was founded during the 17-century for count Per Brahe the younger. It was one of three castle belonging to this nobel family, who also created Gränna. You can see the connection by looking on the street map of Gränna. Al the older streets are made so they can be overlooked from the castle as well as you see the castle clearly from most of the streets.
Where to sleep
Gränna is a little to small for an overnight stay if you ask me. So drive 40 kilometer South to Jönköping. Jönköping is a university city with a population of about 140 000 habitants. The city are well known as an industrial center and have excellent communications.
And check in at Vox hotel. This fantastic property of the Nordic Choice is centrally located but still gives you an amazing view over Vänern. But the best part is their spacious room with a lot of goodies. The hotel is maybe not a candy paradise, but it will feel like a sweet treat anyway.
